Abstract

578,076. Drawing. HEAD, WRIGHTSON, & CO., Ltd., WRIGHTSON, SIR T. G., and LAKE, N. C. Nov. 30, 1944, No. 23952. [Class 83 (iv)] The method of threading tubes through dies described in Specification 569,934 is modified by effecting the threading without the mandrel being in position in the die. The tube is supported from collapse by the pusher jaws 1 by a part 10 of the mandrel the full size of the bore. The operative part 9 of the mandrel is maintained in the position shown during threading. This causes a slight thickening of the wall at the tag end which increases on subsequent passes. In such passes the end of the part 9 is not advanced, during the threading, beyond the shoulder formed. The method may be applied to multiple draw-benches as described in Specification 567,662.
