674,741. Drawing bars and tubes. T.I. (GROUP SERVICES), Ltd. Nov. 24, 1950 [Dec. 1, 1949], No. 30827/49. Class 83 (iv). In a method of drawing metal tubes, rods, &c. two or more dies are assembled on the tag or pulling pin at the forward end of the body to be drawn and are brought into operation successively. Three dies c, Fig. 1, on the tagged end i of a tube h to be drawn are supported in turn by removable inserts j in a die holder b during three successive operations of a drawing carriage e moving on rails a. Mandrels k on a carriage m are changed for each drawing operation. In a modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), a number of die holders b are spaced along the rails a at distances corresponding to the length of tube to be drawn so that the dies c are successively engaged during a single drawing pull of the carriage e. If mandrels are not used the dies may be so spaced that the second and successive dies are brought into operation before the work has passed through the preceding dies.
