Abstract
493,998. Drawing tubes. SINGER, F. Feb. 22, 1938, No. 5612. [Class 83 (iv)] A tube a is reduced in diameter without reducing the wall thickness by supporting it adjacent on end by gripping means 2, advancing a reducing die 1 over said end to reduce a relatively short length in a direction toward the unreduced portion, retracting the die and advancing the tube to provide an unreduced short length ahead of the supported portion, and repeating the steps to reduce progressively successive short lengths of the tube. The frictional grip of the die on the tube may be used for advancing the tube. Fig. 3 shows the position of the parts after the first reducing stage is completed.
