Frames.-In a sewing machine having a free arm 2 and a looptaker which rotates about a horizontal axis in a plane transverse to the direction of work feed, the parts of the looptaker and feed operating mechanisms which are disposed in the free arm are carried by a detachable mounting 4. Feed by dogs.-A feed dog 27 is secured to a bar 23 pivoted at 22 to a crank 21 carried by a shaft 19, the latter being oscillated, for imparting feed advance movement, by means of a connecting rod 33 from an eccentric 32 on the upper shaft 17 of the machine, the stitch length being regulated by means of an angularly movable link 35 coupled to the connecting rod. A rod 24, carried by a slidable frame 26, passes through a crank 25 and enters bar 23, from which it may be withdrawn to allow the feed dog to fall to a non-feeding position. Crank 25 is carried by a shaft 28 which is oscillated, to provide feed lift movement, by means of a connecting rod 30 from an eccentric 36 on shaft 17. Sewing by shuttles.--A shuttle is oscillated in a raceway 6 by a shuttledriver 8 carried by a shaft 7 coupled by gears 10, 11 to a shaft 12 which is oscillated by means of a connecting rod 16 from an eccentric 18 on shaft 17.
