Abstract
764,454. Rotary pipe joints. CHIKSAN CO. Jan. 25, 1955, No. 2216/55. Class 99(1) A swivel joint comprises a spindle B rotatably mounted in and projecting from a body member A, the spindle being provided with an inner flow passage 45 interconnecting pipes 20, 32 and an outer annular passage 40 interconnecting a pipe 21 attached to the side of the body A and a pipe 53 attached to the side of the projecting portion of the spindle B. The spindle is mounted in a ball bearing C the inner race 60 of which is located in position on the spindle by a retaining ring 64 and the outer race 61 of which is located by a retaining ring sealed to the spindle by a sealing ring 72. The passages 40, 45 in the spindle are formed by a core member 37 fixed in a bore in the spindle by retaining rings 42 and sealed at its outer ends by sealing rings 41. The passage 40 is connected through ports 50 in the spindle to an annular chamber 90 in a ring 85 which is in communication with a bore 17 leading to the pipe 21. The upper end of the spindle is sealed on opposite sides of the ports 50 by a sealing ring 81 carried by the ring 85 and by a sealing ring 80 held in position by the ring 85.
