Abstract

862,332. Valves. K.A.C. Ltd. Dec. 16, 1959 [Nov. 6, 1958], No. 35691/58. Class 135. [Also in Group XXVIII] The coupling parts 1, 2 of a pipe joint include valves 9, 20 rotatable, manually by handles 31 or mechanical or fluid-pressureactuated means 32, in guides 6, 15 having ports 8, 18 which register with ports 10, 21 in the valves. The latter have rings of complementary dogs 11 so that the valves are constrained to rotate in synchronism and spiders 12 carried by the guides support thrust bearings 13 acting on the end faces of the valves. The valves are formed of, or externally sheathed with, natural or synthetic rubber or polytetrafluoroethylene, and to provide fluid sealing around the ports in the guides and valves the valves are formed with circumferential rings 34 of ribs on each side of the ports therein and longitudinal ribs 35 between the ports; circumferential rings of ribs 36 are provided on the valves and within the guides 6 of the part 1 and the collar 24 of the part 2.
