Abstract

763,915. Reservoir pens. SCRIPTO, Inc. Jan. 24, 1955 [April 9, 1954], No. 2122/55. Class 146(3). In a ball-point pen wherein the writing unit can be projected and retracted relatively to the casing, plastic, &c., a plunger 16 which is secured to the ink reservoir tube 12, is recessed laterally to receive a substantially U-shaped spring 40 having on one leg 42 two edge flanges 52 on which are formed two pairs of notches 46, 48. The leg 42 is urged outwardly of the plunger so that the notches thereon can co-operate with an abutment 38, formed on a pocket-clip 34, projecting through a recess in the casing 10. A lateral extension 44 of the spring leg 42 is disposed beneath a shroud lug 30 of the plunger 16, and can be pressed inwardly beneath this lug to release the notches 46 from the abutment 38 and allow the writing unit to be retracted within the casing 10 under the action of a coil spring 22. The abutment then engages the notches 48. Further depression of the extension 44 allows the removal of the plunger and writing unit from the casing ; a retaining band 16<SP>1</SP> secured to the plunger 16 overlies the recess in the latter to retain the spring arm 42 during such removal.
