Abstract
763,385. Regenerative heat-exchangers. SVENSKA ROTOR MASKINER AKTIEBOLAG. June 29, 1954 [June 29, 1953], No. 18984/54. Class 64(1) In a rotary-matrix type regenerative heat-exchanger, a circumferential seal between the rotor end faces and the end plates of a stationary housing surrounding the rotor comprises an annulus of sealing brackets 68 each having an arcuate portion 78 secured to the inner surface of the rotor shell 20 and a flanged portion 76 extending laterally therefrom, an annulus of sealing segments 62 bridging the space between the brackets 68 and the adjacent end plate 36, and a plurality of driving pins 72 fixed in each sealing segment, slidably engaged in opening in a bracket 68 whereby each sealing bracket and its corresponding sealing segment can move circumferentially with the rotor as an integral unit whilst at the same time relative axial movement is permitted between the segment and the bracket. Preferably when the seal is provided at the upper end of the rotor as shown, the sealing segments are urged into contact with the adjacent end plate 36 by springs 82. When used at the lower end of the rotor each segment will be gravity biased into contact with the end plate 36 and the springs 82 may be omitted. Alternatively in this latter arrangement, the sealing segments may be weighted to further increase the sealing effect.
