Abstract
1382076 Thermal regenerators AIR PREHEATER CO Inc 2 Aug 1972 [4 Aug 1971] 36167/72 Heading F4K In a rotary regenerative heat exchanger comprising a horizontal rotor post 12 supported by bearings 14 and rotated by a drive motor 16, open ended sector-shaped baskets 22 each containing a mass of heat absorbent material 18 are secured to the rotor post by pivotal attachments 24 in the form of universal joints to form a composite rotor 26. The pivotal attachments permit limited relative movement between the baskets and the rotor post. Circumferential seals 38 and axial seals 44 of the leaf-type extend outwardly from the rotor and rub against the surrounding rotor housing 28. The seals 44 are held in position by means of bolts 42 that connect adjoining baskets together. Further sealing means (40, Fig. 6) extend radially between adjacent baskets at the ends of the rotor 26. The rotor 26 comprises a number of axiallyspaced layers of baskets 22 joined together by flexible sealing means 54. Other sealing means (62, Fig. 7) comprising an elongate bar with spring sections (64) are disposed between baskets in axially spaced layers.
