702,962. Rotary regenerative heatexchangers. AKTIEBOLAGET LJUNGSTROMS ANGTURBIN. Oct. 11, 1951 [Oct. 12, 1950], No. 23661/51. Class 64(1) Relates to rotary regenerative heatexchangers comprising a rotor made up of a cylindrical shell 10 joined to a rotor post 12 by radial partitions 11 forming compartments carrying heat transfer material. a housing 20 surrounding the rotor and provided adjacent the ends of the latter with end plates 21 including imperforate portions located between circumferentially spaced apertures 22 formed in said plates for the flow of heat-exchanging media to, through and from the rotor compartments. According to the invention, radial seals are provided between the radial partitions 11 of the rotor and the imperforate portions of the end plates 21, said seals comprising sealing leaves 30 attached to each partition and projecting axially of the rotor into spaces between the rotor and the respective end plates with their outer radially extending edges spaced from said end plates, U-shaped sealing members 32 fitting over the said outer radially extending edges of the sealing leaves and being supported at their radially inner and outer ends in tracks 38, Fig. 2, provided on the rotor housing adjacent the ends of the rotor so that the outer radially extending surfaces 33 of the U-shaped sealing members 32 are maintained in sealing relationship with the end plates 21 independently of the axial position of the sealing leaves, i.e. irrespective of relative axial movements of the rotor and housing under working conditions. In the. preferred form, the U-shaped members 32 are supported by wear shoes 37 in the tracks 38 and each member 32 may comprise a number of separate plates carried on a bar 35. The sealing leaves 30 are provided with wearrods 31 making sealing contact with the inner surfaces of the limbs of the members 32, Fig. 3. Although supported by the rotor housing the seals must rotate with the rotor and drive brackets 43 are provided on the rotor for this purpose.
