Abstract
762,895. Boat hull construction. LORD, G. G. May 31, 1955 [April 30, 1954; June 1, 1954], Nos. 12580/54 and 16224/54. Class 113. In a boat constructed of bottom and topside panels 1, 2 of such a size that their opposed longitudinal edges (where they would normally meet at the turn of the bilge) are spaced apart, said panels are interconnected, and the space between them bridged and closed, by two or more planks 3 or the equivalent, e.g. moulded, glued or otherwise joined together strips, which extend longitudinally in parallelism with the edges of said panels and are secured to said edges and to one another to provide a hull having a substantially rounded section at the turn of the bilge, e.g. at the water line. In the embodiment of Fig. 1 the bottom and topside panels 1, 2 and the clinker planks 3 are assembled on transverse moulds interconnected by stringers 4, adjacent edges of the panels and planks are bevelled, overlapped, glued, and then temporarily secured by packing pieces 6 and panel pins 5 to the stringers 4 until the glue has dried. In the case of boats with thick panels or double skins, two or more layers of clinker may be used at the turn of the bilge, as at X and Y in Fig. 4.
