Class 99(2) A tube comprises a flexible inner layer 1 formed from strip material and having at last one helical rib of substantially uniform pitch, and an outer layer of helically wound, flexible strip material 6 engaging the rib and defining therefwith an insulating air channel 2. As shown, mild steel strip is wound on to a stationary mandrel, the wound strip being drawn off the mandrel by a tool comprising external and internal members respectively provided with internal and external co-operating two-start threads and between which the material is gripped, the shape of those threads being such as to form in the wound strip two flatbased helical channels 2, 3 separated by helical.ribs 4, 5. A strip of waterproofed crepe paper 6 is helically wound over the metal tube, the pitch of the winding being about half the width of the strip.
