Class 64(3) In a heat exchanger comprising a plurality of conduits a, the open mouths of which project through openings provided a wall of the heat exchanger, each conduit is provided with a stop t limiting the extent to which the plate projects through the wall, the stops being retained in abutment against the wall by bifurcated members f the limbs of which extend one into each of the mouths of two adjacent conduits, each limb co-operating with an abutment in the mouth of the conduit and means, e.g. cams r or wedges, being provided to urge the members f away from the wall so that the conduits are secured in position and project through the wall to the maximum extent permitted by their stops. In the form shown each cam r or wedge co-operates with a strip h which holds sealing gaskets g in position to prevent leakage between the conduits a and the walls c or d, the latter forming part of a casing b containing the conduits. Individual conduits a are detachable from the casing after manipulating the cams r or wedges securing the conduits in position. Baffle means may be provided between adjacent conduits to guide the fluid A flowing through the conduits into and out of mouths of the conduits (Figs. 11 and 12 not shown). Individual conduits may comprise a hollow plate or a bank of tubes extending between headers similar in form to the extremities of a hollow plate. The fluid A may enter and leave the heat exchanger on the same side instead of on opposite sides as shown in Fig. 1. When hollow plates are used, the plate surfaces may be flat or undulating.
