Abstract
1,261,419. Plate heat-exchangers. HISAKA SEISAKUSYO K.K. 2 Sept., 1969 [5 Sept., 1968], No. 43331/69. Heading F4S. In a plate heat exchanger comprising a stack of spaced apart gasketed plates 13 clamped between a main support frame 9 and an end frame 8 and wherein one of the fluids B flows through the stack in a multipass system, the one fluid is returned to the main support plate from the end frame, after passing through the stack in heat exchange relation with fluid A, by means of a separate fluid passageway 19. A return connection 18 leads fluid B from the outlet 7 in the end frame 8 to the passageway 19. This arrangement permits both heat exchange fluids A and B to enter and leave the stack at the same end, thereby allowing stack thickness adjustments to be made without affecting the. fluid inlet and outlet connection 10, 11 and 12, 20. As shown, fluid B flows through alternate spaces j and k via annular passages 22 in the plates surrounding the passageway 19. Fluid A flows in a one pass system through the spaces h to emerge from the stack through outlet 12. In an alternative embodiment (Figs. 9-11, not shown) the outward and return flow passages for the fluid B through the stack are defined by an arrangement of apertures in the plates together with aligned gaskets.
