Abstract
976,120. Plate-type heat exchangers. SEPARATOR A.B. Aug. 2, 1962 [Aug. 3, 1961], No. 29717/62. Heading F4S. In a plate heat exchanger of the type provided with closed interspaces between plates alternating with entirely or partially open interspaces and where the plates are clamped to form a pack and fitted in a closed casing; the casing has a supporting wall 1 from which one or more supporting shafts 8 extend into the interior of the casing. As shown, the plates 9 and thrust plate 12 are threaded on shafts 8 (only one shown). Nuts 11 are used to tighten the thrust plate 12 and clamp plates 9 against supporting wall 1. Heating fluid e.g. steam enters the casing at inlet 6, flows through the open interspaces between plates 9 and condensate exits at 7. Fluid to be heated flows into the closed interspaces via pipe 17 and may follow a zig-zag path from one interspace to the next and eventually flows out at outlet 19. Amongst the pack of plates may be arranged a number of plates which touch the casing along three of their four edges (Fig. 2, not shown) to make the steam follow a zig-zag path. Fig. 3 (not shown) illustrates the thrust plate as one wall of the casing. The supporting wall may contain the inlets and outlets for both heat exchange media.
