Abstract

762,481. Shoring trenches. JOHNSTON BROS. (CONTRACTORS), Ltd., and BONE, A. B. Nov. 4, 1954 [Aug. 6, 1953; Nov. 4, 1953], Nos. 21777/53 and 30458/53. Class 20 (2) An apparatus for applying shoring, such as shoring sheets 38, Fig. 3, piling or timber boards to the sides of a. trench, comprises a chassis mounted on skids 19, 34, or on wheels or endless tracks which rest on the ground on each side of the trench, which chassis supports on each side within the trench, a pair of fore and aft members 23 .(and 25, not shown), located one above the other and pivoted to ver- 'tical chassis members 10 which can be spaced at an adjustable distance apart whereby the fore and aft members can be arranged to press the shoring 38 against the sides of the trench whilst the chassis is pulled along behind a trench excavating machine (not shown), by chains 37. Between the rear ends of corresponding fore and aft members 23, 25 on opposite sides of the trench, are provided screw jacks 28 (and 29, not shown), or hydraulic rams, which in use are adjusted so as to press the shoring against the sides of the trench. The rear ends of the members 23, 25 are slung by chains (not shown in Fig. 3), from a cross member 33 which is connected by chains 36 to brackets 18 which support the forward skids 19. The vertical positions and the vertical spacing of the members 23, 25 can be adjusted.
