Abstract
1,004,365. Boring earth, &c. E. BERGSTROM. Sept. 23, 1964 [Aug. 8, 1963], No. 31377/63. Heading E1F. Apparatus in a pit for forcing pipe lengths 13 into the ground by means of a jack or jacks 20 comprises rails 17 having means for reacting the thrust of the jack or jacks. Fig. 6 shows the means as comprising pins 19 which may be placed in one of a series of holes 18. The cylinders of the jacks are fixed to a cross beam 21 engaging the end of a pipe length. The rails are hinged to a wall of the pit, and two further rails rest on the bottom of the pit to support the pipe and may carry jacks. In a modification (Fig. 7) shoes 24 are locked by pins 29 to abut one of a series of plates 23 spaced along the rails. In a further modification (Fig. 8, not shown) the rails have a series of abutments 31, and the jacks engage a cross beam 28a and a plate 33 on the end of a pipe length.
