Abstract

1356548 Amphibious vehicles KONIJN MACHINEBOUW NV 30 March 1972 [15 April 1971] 15228/72 Heading B7A [Also in Division E1] A floating excavator with a jib-mounted grab 8 has at one end at least one support leg 11 of adjustable length and at the other end at least one support leg 13, both legs being pivotally mounted on the vehicle so that they may be fixed in various angular positions in both horizontal and vertical directions, each leg having at its free end a vehicle support means, and the vehicle having a total of at least three legs. The embodiment described has a single leg 13 at its rear and a pair of legs 11 at its front. A portion 11<SP>11</SP> of each leg 11 is rotatably and telescopically mounted in a portion 11<SP>1</SP>, and a series of holes enables a stud to secure the portion 11<SP>11</SP> such that a wheel 12 lies in a horizontal plane, as shown, for engagement with the bottom of a channel to be excavated or with the bank at either side of the channel, or in a vertical plane for movement of the vehicle on land. Each leg 11 is angularly movable about a horizontal axis by an hydraulic device 17 and about a vertical axis by hand. The leg 13, which has a telescopic extension 13<SP>11</SP> secured by a stud passing through holes and carries a support 14 in the form of a plate which presses into the bottom of the channel to prevent turning of the vehicle is adjustable about a horizontal axis by an hydraulic device 17 and about a vertical axis by another hydraulic device (18, not shown). For movement on land the wheels 12 are turned to lie in vertical planes and their stub axles 19 interconnected by a detachable cross-bar, and an axle with a pair of wheels is attached to the rear support 13. The vehicle can be turned on land by using the device 17 to raise the rear wheels clear of the ground and then to lower them obliquely against the ground. Manoeuvring of the vehicle into and out of water is facilitated by a winch 21. Detachable pontoons 2 may be secured to the vehicle to assist stabilization in water.
