[Also in Group XL (a)] The cathode-activating current in a discharge tube 19 is maintained constant in spite of fluctuations in internal resistance by providing in series with it a pentode or tetrode V1 which can be operated on a flat part of the current/voltage characteristic. A gas-filled voltage stabilizer V2 has its control electrode 15 connected through a resistor R2 to the positive D.C. supply terminal 11; its anode is connected to the positive terminal through a resistor R3, and to the screen grid 17 of V1 through a variable resistor R4, so that an adjustable but stabilized control voltage is applied to grid 17. This is initially adjusted to give a current of 100 mA. through the tube 19. Suitable circuit components are specified. Specification 759,929, [Group XL (a)], is referred to.
