761,399. Cooling cutting-tools. DISTILLERS CO., Ltd. April 18, 1955 [May 7, 1954; May 7, 1954], Nos. 13332/54 and 13333/54. Class 83 (3). [Also in Groups XXVI and XXVIII] Carbon-dioxide in a form suitable for machine tool coolant is supplied by a pump A, which draws from a storage tank C of CO 2 at about 300 lb./p.s.i. (0‹ F.) and supplies it via a reservoir D at 900-1000 lb/p.s.i. A reservoir E connected to the pump-outlet is maintained at a temperature about 75-85‹ F. and contains liquid and gaseous CO 2 The reservoir E is mounted on a spring-loaded carrier, and variations of the weight of CO 2 therein cause contacts F, G to open and close to shut-off the motor driving the pump and to give warning of impending failure of high-pressure CO 2 supply. A return-pipe having a reducing- valve K may lead back to the tank C. In a modification, the reservoir E controls the speed of the driving motor. The pump A may be any positive displacement pump, e.g. a single or double-acting piston pump, gear pump or diaphragm pump. According to the first Provisional Specification, piston pumps with variable stroke may be used. The pump has a condenser B as described in Specification 760,241, [Group XXVI].
