Abstract

760,688. Break-down cranes. WILSON, A. C., RODGER, B. L., SETTERINGTON, D. W., GAYE, F., and ALEXANDER, R. L. Aug. 10, 1954 [May 11, 1953], No. 13112/53. Class 78 (3). A lifting and towing attachment for a breakdown vehicle comprises a beam 1 which is pivoted to the vehicle at 2, carries a vehicleengaging member at its free end, and is movable to a substantially vertical stowed position (shown in chain lines) where it is retained by a nut 9. The engaging member comprises a horizontal bar 3 pivoted about an axis 7 and provided with a number of holes in which various crutches (Figs. 4-10, not shown) may be inserted. The beam may be telescopic or otherwise extendible and may be provided with a resilient member (not shown) to mitigate snatch. According to a modification (not shown), the beam luffing crane 4 is replaced by a ram acting on a forward extension of the beam. The attachment may be mounted at the front of the break-down vehicle.
