Abstract

1,063,083. Mobile breakdown cranes. M. HAYMAN and E. G. HELLENGA. Dec. 6, 1963 [Dec. 6, 1962], No. 48239/63. Headings B8B and B8H. A mobile crane mounted on a base 1, Fig. 1, with wheels 7, 9, has an upright post 12 braced by a strut 13 which pivotally supports a telescopic jib 29, 31, luffable by an hydraulic ram 24, 25. The ram is manually operated by a lever 27 and as the jib luffs a sling 55, Fig. 2, for towing disabled vehicles is moved up and down the strut 13 by a cable 59, Fig. 1. The sling may be held in raised position by inserting a pin 63 in one of holes 64. Road wheels 39 may be moved from their inoperative position shown in full lines in Fig. 1 to their operative position by a lever 40 which rotates arms 37 carrying stub axles 38 to a position in which they are held by the weight of the crane and pins 41. A towing device comprising arms 45, Fig. 3, attached to a hitch 49, 50 may be pinned to ends 6 of the base 1.
