Abstract

1357100 Vehicle breakdown crane P J CLIFF 19 Nov 1971 [21 Nov 1970 28 May 1971] 55474/70 and 18120/71 Heading B8H A breakdown crane adapted to be mounted on the deck of a towing vehicle consists of a telescopic boom 1, 2 which is pivoted at 6a to a lug 6 on a beam 7 adapted to be secured to the vehicle deck and which extends between the side members 8 of an upright 9. A tow bar 19 is pivotally mounted on lugs 20 secured to a shaft 11, which is rotatably mounted in brackets 12 adapted to be secured to the vehicle deck and which supports the upright 9, and is connected by a cable 23 passing over a grooved member 16 on the boom and secured to a pin 24 which is adapted to be located in one of a series of holes 17 in plates 18 on the boom. The length of the boom can be adjusted to one of a series of positions in which a pin is passed through corresponding holes 3, 4 in the two boom sections. The boom may be raised to a selected height by means of a detachable hydraulic ram 21 and held in a selected position by means of a pin passing through holes in the boom and in plates 14 secured to the upright 9. The crane may be folded down, when not in use, by removing the ram, retracting the boom and lowering it to the vehicle deck, and folding the upright 9 and tow bar 19 down on top of the boom, Fig. 2 (not shown). In a modification (not shown), the crane is mounted in a van.
