Abstract

760,464. Floor polishing machines. STAEHLE, G. Dec. 2, 1954 [Dec. 16, 1953], No. 34926/54. Class 138(1) A dust-aspiring floor polishing machine has brushes 1, Fig. 2, rotatable about vertical axes and a buffer band 4 adjustably mounted for height around the periphery of the casing 3, the band 4 being held firmly in position under tension, by engagement with teeth 6, Fig. 3, on two or more flanges projecting from the periphery of the casing. The band 4, Fig. 3, of folded and sewn felt, has an embedded wire 8. One end of the wire passes through at slit in the exterior of the band and is prolonged as a helical spring 11, Fig. 2, which engages a hook 12 of a toggle lever closure 13, the base plate 14 of which, is secured to the band. The band is adjusted so that its edge engages the floor. The toothed flanges are formed on metal plates 5 secured to each end of the casing. If desired the flanges may be integral with the casing or pivoted thereon. In the latter case the band tension is released by turning the flanges instead of opening the toggle closure 13. In the modification of Fig. 6. a toothed flange 15 is provided on a yieldable metal plate 16 secured at one end to the casing. Straps provided on each.side of the plate flange 15 as secured to the casing at 18 and the flange is caused to protrude beyond the straps to engage the band by means of a wedge 17 inserted between the plate 16 and the casing 3.
