Class 146(2) In a machine for applying a deformable seal 18 to a tensioned metal band &c. 14 having a die head 16 moved by a hand operated lever 17 so that a die 19 thereon co-operates With a corresponding die 23 on the bed of the machine to deform the seal and bond, the die head is rectangular in section and has a shaft removably mounted therein which carries a roller arranged to be contacted by lever 17 or by a member moving with that lever); The die head shown is rectangular in section, slides in a guideway in the bed 20, and carries a replaceable roller 35-rotatable on shaft 36 and a hook portion 34. Lever 17 is fixed on shaft 27 having an eccentric 32 and an eccentric projection 33, so that when the lever is swung in one direction eccentric 32 acts on roller 35 to force the die head downwards, and when it is swung in the other direction projection 33 engages in hook 34 and raises the die head. A knife blade 39 to cut part way through the upper metal band is carried by the di head, the operative position of the blade being adjusted by fitting a roller 35 of required radius, and a final adjustment made by adjusting the screws which hold the blade down against the pin extending through the die head. Levers 17, 15 are swung towards each other, raising die 19 and collar 12, to position the band, and are held in this position by engagement of pin 24 in notch 25.
