Affixing tape.-In a machine for applying tape for reinforcing shoe parts, as in Specification 310,587, in which the work is held during the normal working of the machine by the upper feeding member and pressing member alternately, means are provided for holding the work during the cutting of the tape, during which operation these members are raised out of operative position; these means consist of a clamp for holding the work during the interval between the rasing of the feeding and pressing members and the cutting operation, the clamp being thrown out of operation on the completion of the cut. The feeding and pressing means are also so arranged that when brought into operation the gripping of the cut end of the tape is effected by one or the other. For this latter purpose the feed foot 200 is provided with a recess 204 in which rides an extension 205 on the pressing member 202. The means for holding the work during the cutting operation consists of a member 210 mounted on the end of a spring- influence shaft 212 the bent end of which is engaged by a cam adjustably mounted on a plate pivoted to the head operating the shears'25, 26.
