[Class 83 (iv)] In a drawing &c. press with two slides operating on the upper side of the bed, one of the slides being carried by the other for movement therewith by the operating mechanism of the carrier slide for a predetermined distance after which the operating mechanism is rendered inoperative whilst the carried slide is actuated independently, a slide located on the lower side of the bed is operated in the opposite direction intermediate the operation of the upper slides. The outer. clamping slide 14 is actuated by linkage 20, 25, 26, 27, 30, 31, 32, 38 from eccentrics 34 in the base 12 of the press. The eccentrics 34 also drive through straps 36 and linkage 73, 74 the lower slide 72. An inner slide 48 is mounted on lugs 49 of the outer slide 14 and is actuated independently of the outer slide by eccentrics 59 in the head through linkage 60, 50, 52. Screws 22 &c. are provided for adjusting the slides. Means, not shown, are provided for rendering the mechanisms inoperative in sequence. Operation. By rotation of the eccentrics 34, the clamping slide 14 and the slide 48 are lowered together, the eccentrics 59 being inactive and the straps 60 rotating idly about the eccentrics. The slide 72 is raised by the eccentrics 34 which are then stopped to provide a dwell for the slides 14, 72, and the eccentrics 59 are then rotated to lower the slide 48 to complete the operation.
