Abstract
757,932. Coating with metals; fluxes. ALUMINUM CO. OF AMERICA. Dec. 18, 1953 [Jan. 2, 1953], No. 35279/53. Class 82(2) Prior to coating with aluminium or an aluminium base alloy by dipping, ferrous metal bodies are coated with a dry, solid, chloride-free flux containing 65-85 per cent of at least one alkali metal bromide and 15-35 per cent of at least one of potassium fluoride and potassium acid fluoride. The bromide may be that of sodium, potassium or lithium and the flux may also contain up to 10 per cent of a heavy metal fluoride e.g. titanium tetrafluoride. Wire or strip may be continuously fluxed and coated by passing through an aqueous flux solution at 170‹-190‹F., allowing the flux to dry and then passing through a metal bath at 1250‹-1400‹F.
