Abstract

A flux for use in soldering titanium or an alloy containing upwards of 80% of titanium comprises a constituent for producing hydrofluoric acid at a joint face, a constituent capable of depositing silver, copper, manganese or nickel on a joint face by chemical exchange with titanium, and ammonium chloride in an amount of 10-34% by weight of the flux. Suitable fluxes comprise, by weight, lithanium fluoride 4-8%, silver chloride 5-10%, ammonium chloride 10-34%, sodium chloride 20-30%, potassium chloride 20-30%, zinc chloride 10-34%. The Provisional Specification discloses fluxes which do not contain ammonium chloride. Specification 768,126 is referred to.
