Abstract

871,813. Brazing. MARTIN CO. Dec. 1, 1958, No. 38627/58. Class 83 (4). A brazing paste for joining aluminium or aluminium base alloys containing at least 70% aluminium comprises approximately 1 part by weight of a metal fluoride, from approximately 4-12 parts by weight of an aluminium-silicon alloy and water. In an example a paste is prepared using 4-12, preferably 7-8 parts by weight of powdered aluminium-silicon alloy, 1 part by weight powdered aluminium fluoride and 3¢ parts by weight water. The alloy may contain 7-12 parts aluminium and 1 part silicon, e.g. 88% aluminium and 12% silicon. The paste, which is brushed on to the joint, may be used in furnace or flux dip brazing and one of the parts to be joined may be an aluminiummagnesium-copper bearing alloy.
