Abstract

757,815. Dynamo-electric machines. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. March 25, 1955 [April 2, 1954], No. 9799/54. Class 35. Lubricating vapour is fed in the contact area between a brush 1 and a collector 2 by feeding a liquid having a relatively low vapour pressure, e.g. trichlorethylene, through the brush body via restricting means between the reservoir and the brush material. The liquid may be contained in a reservoir 3 adjacent the end of the brush as in Fig. 1 or fed to the brush from a reservoir 13 mounted separately from the brush as in Fig. 2. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, the brush has a short tube 4 having at its outer end a porous restriction 7 connected to a wick 9. The fluid flowing through the tube 4 passes into the brush porous body and/or through ducts 8 provided in the brush itself. In Fig. 2 the liquid 14 in the reservoir 13 is supplied to the brush via wicks 9<SP>1</SP>, a porous restriction 17, tubes 15, 18 and a plug 19. The end of the tube within the brush holder 11 is coiled within the loading spring 20 so as to allow for the movement and wear of the brush.
