Abstract
755,838. Protective coatings for lamp bulbs; lantern glasses &c. CROMPTON PARKINSON, Ltd. March 31, 1954 [May 5, 1953; Jan. 18, 1954], Nos. 12515/53 and 1475/54. Classes 39(2) and 75(2). The glass parts of electric lighting equipment for outdoor use, such as an electric lantern, a visor or cover glass for an electric lantern, or a gas-filled electric lamp bulb, which are heated in operation and are susceptible to damage by the deposition of atmospheric moisture, are covered with a layer of transparent or translucent waterrepellent material capable of withstanding high temperatures, the layer having a thickness of between 5 and 500 microns so as to provide protection against thermal shock caused by the deposition of moisture thereon. Examples of suitable protective materials are silicone oils, silicone greases and silicone resins, the best results being obtained with a coating thickness of between 40 and 50 microns.
