Abstract

884,039. Electric light fittings. HOLOPHANE Ltd. Sept. 7, 1960 [Sept. 7, 1959], No. 30460/59. Classes 75(2) and 75(4) A well-glass lighting fitting has an internal screen extending from about the level of the rim of the housing to a level below the filament and so disposed that air can circulate freely between the lamp and screen and between the screen and well-glass. The fitting comprises a hood 1 having mounting means and supporting a lamp-holder 2, the underside of the hood being closed by a ring 4 carrying a well-glass 5. Three clips 7 screwed to the ring 4 engage the rim of a screen 6 so that the upper edge 8 is on a level with the ring 4. The lower edge 9 subtends an angle at the filament 11 of the lamp 3, not greater than 130 degrees. Hot air rises between the lamp 3 and the screen 6, is cooled in the hood and descends between the screen 6 and the glass 5. The screen 6 may be made refracting, e.g. by the provision of ribs on the surface, or reflecting. It may also be made of infra-red absorbing material to keep down the temperature of the well-glass.
