Abstract

1309305 Fibre Optics POLY-OPTICS Inc 1 Dec 1970 [9 April 1970] 56918/70 Heading G2J [Also in Division F4] A decorative device for use with a lamp bulb 30 and a lamp bulb holder 32 comprises a plurality of optical fibres 12 bundled together at their light receiving ends in an adapter 38 engaging the light bulbs or light bulb holder and free at their other light emitting ends. The adapter may comprise a cylindrical casing 40 which fits on to the bulb holder and has its inner surface coated with a highly light-reflecting material 48 such as aluminium, the light receiving ends of the optical fibres being held in a sleeve 34 retained in the adapter. Alternatively the fibre ends may be held directly by a metal tubular adapter which is crimped on to them, the adapter being supported directly on the bulb via spring tabs, Fig. 5 (not shown). In further embodiments the adapter is in the form of an expansible truncated cone which slide-fits on the lamp bulb holder, Figs.6-10 (not shown), and may have vents to dispose of the heat generated by the bulb.
