Abstract
754,699. Loose covers for armchairs &c. S. & E. MANUFACTURING CO. Dec. 10, 1954 [Dec. 15, 1953], No. 35875/54. Class 52(4). A loose cover for chairs consists of a section for the back and seat, Fig. 1, and a section, Fig. 2, for each arm. The back and seat section consists of a part 10 for the rear of the chair back ; a part 12 for the front of the chair back above the level of the chair arms ; a part 13 for the rest of the chair back and the seat ; a front part 21 ; and a skirt part 30. Two parts 20 are fixed to the edges of the part 12 and,‹on the chair, extend around the sides of the back. At the junction of the parts 12, 13, each edge has a slit 15 into which is let a rectangular piece of fabric 17. For broad-backed chairs, this slit is closed up but for narrow backed chairs it is opened out and any excess fabric 17 is tucked between the chair arm and back. Front part 21 is recessed along each edge at 27 the recesses being backed by fabric strips 28 which fill in the space between the chair arms and the recesses in chairs having broad seats. Part 21 has extensions 26 which reach round to the sides of the arms. Each arm section, Fig. 2, has a part 36 covering the arms, a part 37 extending to the chair back and a part 41 for covering the front of the arm. Part 41 is sewn to the rest of the section only along the line I . . . H and is so shaped as to tuck under the rest of the section and snugly fit any shape of arm.
