Abstract

754,149. Valves. ETABLISSEMENTS PARFONRY & LIELENS, SOC. ANON. March 15, 1954 [Feb. 9, 1954], No. 7502/54. Class 135. In a valve comprising a resilient diaphragm 5 clamped between a valve body 1 and a valve cover 6 and formed integrally with a central resilient hemispherical plug 4 which is secured to an operating member 9 carried by the cover and movable to effect opening and closing of the valve by flexure of the free part of the diaphragm without any substantial stretching thereof, the inside of the cover is curved to conform to the shape of the diaphragm when the valve is fully open, and the outside of the valve body where it merges into a recess 3 of the same shape as the plug is also curved to conform with the shape of the diaphragm in the valve-closed position. The diaphragm is thus fully supported in both the full open and fully closed positions. A passage 7 ensures that no fluid is trapped between the diaphragm and the opposed surface of the valve body. An even pressure is exerted on the plug 4 by a plate 8 embedded therein. Specification 698,897 is referred to.
