Abstract

753,921. Screw conveyers. THORDAHL, G. J., [trading as THORDAHL & CO., G. J.], and PODMORE, A. May 5, 1955 [May 17, 1954], No. 14319/54. Class 78 (1). The inlet to the casing 43 of a vertical screw conveyer 44 is located within a well 41 in which is reciprocated a frusto-conical member 51, which surrounds the casing, and a similarly shaped member 54, which surrounds only onehalf of the casing. The members 51, 54 are carried by rods 52 which are pivoted at their upper ends to horizontal arms 55 of a bell-crank lever assembly pivoted at 56. A vertical arm 58 of this assembly is connected by a ball joint 59 to a connecting rod 60 which is driven by a crank 28. A spring-loaded lost motion device 61 is inserted in the connecting rod to avoid damage in the event of the members 51, 54 meeting an obstruction. The crank 28 is driven by the output shaft of a gear-box 26. This shaft extends downwards to drive a mixing screw 13 and is connected by belt gearing 27, 49, 48 to the shaft of the conveyer 44.
