Abstract

753,539. Spindle apparatus. FERRANTI, Ltd. Jan. 17, 1955 [Dec. 30, 1953], No. 36127/53. Class 120 (2). A spindle, of the type in which an inner skewer 2 on which a cop 3 is to be wound, is carried by and revolves with an outer casing 1 provided with a slot 4 through which yarn passes to reach the skewer, is surrounded by inner and outer coaxial bearing members 8 and 5, the outer member being attached to a ring rail 7, adapted to rise and fall to build the cop and the inner bearing member being free to revolve independently of the spindle but for an abutment 12 detachably mounted on the inner bearing member and projecting into the slot 4 in the outer casing 1, the abutment 12 being provided with yarn guiding means, whereby the inner bearing member is, in operation, driven round by the outer casing 1. The abutments 12 may be made of nylon and the yarn guiding means may be in the form of a passage therethrough. Alternatively the abutment may be of metal and have a wire loop or pigtail as the yarn guiding means. Buffers 18 may be provided to ensure that the abutments 12 maintain contact with the edges of slots 4. Specifications 268,493, [Class 120 (ii)], and 684,629 are referred to.
