Abstract

753,100. Friction clutches. WATERBURY FARREL FOUNDRY & MACHINE CO. July 27, 1954 [Aug. 3, 19531, No. 21884/54. Class 80(2) [Also in Groups XXIX and XXXIV] A combined brake and clutch mechanism, particularly for presser and like machines, has a band brake 30 which is operated to release condition by fluid pre'ssure supply to chamber 51 on the right hand side of piston 46 simultaneously with the application of disc clutch 14, 15 by inflation of bellows member 22. The pressurization of space 51 causes the piston 46 to move to the left compressing spring 54 and breaking the toggle linkage 37 39. Due to the greater area of space 51. a steady pressure in space 52 to the left of piston 46 is overcome when the brake is released, but when the clutch is disengaged, this constantly applied pressure acts together with spring 54 to apply the brake. To prevent the brake being applied before the clutch is properly released, a one-way restriction valve 65, Fig. 6. is inserted in the pipe 64 to retard the release of pressure from space 51. The fluid-pressure supply line 57 includes an air cleaner 58, a pressure regulating valve 59, an air lubricator 60, as well as the solenoid operated valve 62, 63, governing admission of pressure to conduit 28.
