Abstract
509,422. Fluid-actuated valves. WESTING- HOUSE BRAKE & SIGNAL CO.,' Ltd., and KERSHAW, A. G. Jan. 14, 1938, No. 1340. [Class 135] [Also in Group XXXIV] A valve 20 controlling admission of air from a chamber 7 through a port 18 in fluid-pressure brakes is opened by the pressure of the air in the chamber acting on a piston 22 against the action of a spring 31. The piston 22 works loosely in a liner 25, and is sealed in its end positions by gaskets 26 and 27. The valve 20 itself is carried by a supplementary piston 19 mounted in a bore in the main piston 22 and subject to a light spring 23. In the closed position of the valve the force of the main spring 31 is taken by the gasket 26, the light spring 23 only pressing the valve on its seating 21. In this way excessive pressure on the seating 21 is avoided.
