Abstract

752,498. Optical systems. KODAK, Ltd. May 4, 1954 [May 4, 1953], No. 13020/54. Drawings to Specification. Class 97 (1). An optical element is coated with a high refractive index interference layer of titanium nitride. The layer may be applied directly to the element, if a lens, or applied alternately with layers of magnesium fluoride. The layer may be formed by deposition of metallic titanium on the element by thermal evaporation under vacuum and subsequent heating of the coated element in an atmosphere of nitrogen preferably at a temperature between 400‹ C. and the softening point of the element.
