Abstract

1,088,382. Infrared objectives. SOCIETE EUROPEENNE DE MATERIALS SPECIAUX. Feb. 15, 1965 [Feb. 14, 1964], No.6489/65. Heading G2J. An objective for use in the infrared, particularly in the range of 3-5 microns, comprises at least three lenses of which at least one is made of arsenic trisulphide and another of sapphire. As shown, the first two are of arsenic trisulphide and the third of sapphire. A window F1 of silicon has an anti-reflecting coating and a filter F2 of sapphire has interference coatings on its two faces to produce low pass and high pass characteristics respectively such that the spectral range passed is 3À2-4À8 microns. The filter F2 may be maintained at a low temperature. The diaphragms D1-D5 are of polished metal and surface treated to obtain high reflective power to reduce heat emission therefrom. Optical data are provided for the example shown.
