[Also in Division G2] In the vapour deposition of blooming layers on e.g. lenses of e.g. Ca SiO 3 , ZrO 2 , and MgF 2 , the thickness of the layers is controlled by providing in the vacuum chamber a light transmitting or reflecting element having pre-coated layers thereon of alternate high and low refractive index materials, e.g. ZnS or PbF 2 and MgF 2 . The lenses may be mounted on a rotatable carrier.
