Abstract
751.185. Gas turbine plant. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON. July 15, 1954 [Aug. 13, 1953], No. 20720/54. Class 110(3) A quantity which is a function of the gas temperature at the inlet of a gas turbine 3 is derived automatically from measurements of the outlet temperature and the inlet and outlet pressures and is used to control or adjust the gas inlet temperature. The formula used in the derivation is log wherein Á is the internal efficiency of the turbine, y is the ratio of the specific heats of the driving gases, T, and T 2 are the inlet and outlet temperatures, and p1 and p2 are the inlet and outlet pressures. In the apparatus shown the movement of the differentially loaded piston 19 is proportional to log T 2 and the piston is coupled to the stem of a fuel valve 20 to prevent the maximum permissable inlet temperature being exceeded. A regulating system of conventional type may be connected to piston 19 for adjusting automatically, in accordance with operating conditions, the value of the inlet temperature at which the piston influences the fuel supply. The fuel supply is otherwise regulated by hand. or automatically in response to regulating impulses, by means of a valve 21. A thermometer 6 in the turbine outlet acts on a piston valve 7 to control the liquid pressure in a conduit 8 connected to the underside of a piston 9. The undersides of pistons 15, 16 are subject to inlet and outlet pressures. The pistons 9, 15 and 6 control the supply of fluid from a pipe 10 to the piston 19 and to the upper sides of pistons 12, 17, 18 which are adapted to rotate suitably shaped cams 13 adapted to vary the loading of the pistons bv springs 14.
