Abstract
An anti-condensation coating-composition comprises a water-in-oil type emulsion consisting of a continous phase containing an organic film-forming binder and a dispersed aqueous phase, and 10 to 45 per cent of the weight of the composition of a cellular material of low thermal conductivity, the solid constituents being so finely divided that the composition, on drying, yields a coating that is smooth to the touch. A minor amount of a fibrous material of low thermal conductivity, e.g. asbestos, mineral wool, glass fibres or glass wool, may be incorporated. The cellular material may be diatomaceous earth, pumice, basic magnesium carbonate, fuller's earth or cellular plastics. Suitable binders include untreated or heat-treated, oxidized or isomerized natural and synthetic drying and semi-drying oils, varnishes, e.g. wood oil and phenol-formaldehyde condensate, and natural and synthetic resins, such as vinyl derivatives, oil-modified alkyd resins, phenolic resins and oil copolymers such as styrenated oils and alkyds. Emulsifying agents such as calcium linoleate and aluminium stearate, which may be mixed with ammonium oleate; preservatives and fungicides, e.g. phenol, nitrobenzene, sodium pentachlorphenate and organic mercury compounds; pigments such as lithopone or titanium dioxide; extenders such as barytes, china clay, mica and whiting; and corrosion inhibitors such as sodium nitrite, sodium benzoate, or morpholine, may be included.ALSO:An anti-condensation coating-composition comprises a water-in-oil type emulsion consisting of a continuous phase containing an organic film-forming binder and a dispersed aqueous phase and 10 to 45 per cent of the weight of the composition of a cellular material of low thermal conductivity, the solid constituents being so finely divided that the composition, on drying, yields a coating that is smooth to the touch. Emulsifiying agents such as calcium linoleate and aluminium stearate, which may be mixed with ammonium oleate and preservatives and fungicides, e.g. phenol, nitrobenzene, sodium pentachlorphenate and organic mercury compounds; plasticizers; pigments such as lithopone or titanium dioxide; extenders such as barytes, china clay, mica and whiting; and corrosion inhibitors such as sodium nitrite, sodium benzoate, or morpholine, may be included. The compositions may be applied by brushing, spraying, roller coating or trowelling, in thicknesses up to one inch or more.
