749,294. Charging pumps. DRESSER OPERATIONS. Inc. March 17. 1954 [March 20, 1953], No. 7818/54. Class 7(2) [Also in Group XXIX] An overrunning clutch for a turbo-supercharger of an internal-combustion engine comprises a hydraulic coupling 10 having a shaft 20 driven from the crankshaft 106 of the engine, and a shaft 22 connected to a shaft 114 between a turbine 116 fed by the exhaust of the engine and a compressor 118. The coupling is of the hydrokinetic type and is continually drained of oil. When the shaft 114 rotates the shaft 22 faster than shaft 20 is rotated, the supply of oil to the coupling is automatically cut off by hydraulically-actuated control means (see Group XXIX), and the coupling consequently empties. The shaft 114 is therefore free to rotate at the speed determined by the turbine. U.S.A. Specifications 2,521,117 and 1,938,357 are referred to.
