Abstract

748,855. Magnetic separators. RAPID MAGNETIC MACHINES, Ltd. Nov. 22, 1954 [Dec. 3, 1953], No. 33585/53. Class 117. In a magnetic separator for an inclined shoot, wherein a plate carrying one or more polepieces is positioned in the floor of the shoot, the plate is hinged at one end to a frame carrying one or more permanent magnets normally engaging the underside of the plate, the frame being hinged at the other end to a fixed bracket carrying one or more projecting lugs which engage the underside of the plate to prise it away from the magnets when the assembly is swung downwards about the frame hinge. The separator plate c, carrying wedge or other shaped pole-pieces d, and mounted in the floor a of the shoot, is hinged at e to the frame f, which is in turn hinged at its lower end g to the bracket h fixed to the shoot. The frame f carries permanent magnets k for coaction with pole-pieces d, and the plate-frame assembly is kept in contact with the shoot by means of wing nuts 1; release of the latter allows frame f to swing downwards about g, and the fixed lugs q engage with plate c to prise the latter from magnets k. The plate may then swing about e to take up a vertical position for discharge of the collected material; alternatively the plate is arrested in a horizontal position by stops (not shown). In modifications frame f is hinged at its upper end to bracket h, the plate being frame hinged at its lower end, and abutments may be provided on plate c for engagement with lugs q.
