Abstract

5372. Howard, H. K., and Tombs, J. March 3. Knockers; finger-plates. - In order to allow bright metal knockers, door plates, &c. to be partly or entirely withdrawn from the door for the purpose of cleaning, each fastening-bolt 12, Fig. 5, passes through a metal plate or casing 1 carrying gripping - blocks 2, 4, Fig. 4, with roughened or screw-threaded recessed portions. The pivoted spring-controlled block 4 is operated by means of a cam-lever 7 to cause it to cooperate with the fixed block 2. The usual nut 13 serves as a stop to limit the movement of the knocker &c., and a sleeve 14 may be provided. Knockers having one fastening-bolt only may be provided with a guide-pin 15.
