Abstract
719,189. Flexible doors. NEWMAN & SONS, Ltd., W., and SHEAD, H. C. Oct. 16, 1953 [Jan. 29, 1953], No. 2538/53. Class 20 (3) The overlapping edges of double swing doors 1, 2, of flexible material, e.g. canvas-reinforced rubber have co-operating magnetic means for preventing separation of the edges as by wind pressure when the doors are closed. A bar-type magnet may be fitted in an aperture in each edge and held in place by thin plates a riveted together on both sides of the door. The poles of the two magnets are reversed so that the edges are held together until the impact as of a truck &c. forces the doors apart. Two or more pairs of magnets at different heights may be provided ; the magnet on one edge may be replaced by an iron or steel plate serving as an armature. The vertical inner edge and the top edge of each door are attached to rigid tubes 3, 4, and the doors are controlled by spring closing mechanism.
