Abstract

843,889. Magnetic separators. SPODIG, H. July 10, 1958 [July 10, 1957], No. 22200/58. Class 117 A magnetic separator comprises a housing 3 pivotally mounted in an inclined position on a stand 1 and containing permanent magnets 4 arranged with like poles uppermost, a rotatable pole plate 5 consisting of a series of radial sections of magnetic and non-magnetic material, arranged alternately, overlying the magnets 4 and driven by a motor 2, and a fixed plate 6 which lies above the pole plate 5 to form together with the housing 3 part of the magnetic yoke and which is connected to a cover plate 9, the distance between plates 5 and 6 being adjustable by means of hand-wheels. Material to be separated is directed on to the pole plate 5 through an opening 10 in the plates 6 and 9, non-magnetic material leaving through a shoot 11 and magnetic material through a shoot 12. The magnets 4 and the plate 6 extend over half the area of the pole plate 5. Alternatively, magnets may be provided over the whole area of the plate 5, in which case the plate may be made entirely of magnetic material; a wiper 13 is then necessary to remove magnetic particles trapped by the plate. The separator may be used for granular or powdered solid, pasty, liquid and gaseous materials
